Garden Gone Crazy

It's been awhile since I last posted (again! I'm great at composing blogs in my head...not so great at sitting down to type them out).
In the 2 months since we planted the garden, it has gone NUTS! These are the most recent pictures:

We've been enjoying so much lettuce and yellow squash.  And now, the green beans are producing so much, too.  The pea plants look horrible.  We're having a drought here in Central Texas, and some unusually high temperatures.  I've been trying to keep the garden watered as best I can - I use the water I wash the lettuce in to supplement any short waterings I do.  I just dump the water from the rinse bowl into a bucket and haul it out - feels like pioneer times.  Haha!  But, the peas plants get browner and drier.  The funny thing is, the browner they get, the more pods are showing up, and the bigger the peas are getting.  The pods look terrible, but the peas are really yummy - so far, anyway.  Probably won't end up with all that many, but that's okay.
Here is what I picked today - 22 ounces/2 bowls full of lettuce, today, alone!

See, the peas, once they're out of the pods, look so pretty!

Well, tomorrow is one of the two days I work each month, so it's off to bed I go.
I hope Memorial Day weekend is a good one for all - hopefully this crazy, tragic weather is ending for the year. Praying so much and so often for those who have been affected by all the tornadoes.

Our Garden is Growing like Crazy!

In spite of the drought we're in, and the minimal watering I'm doing, our garden is so beautifully green! Here are some progressive pictures:

Our first little harvest - 1/2 ounce of lettuce.  We've since picked 18 more ounces.

Can't wait to taste this little guy!  :)

Wow!

Woke up to find 3 green little plants, sticking out of the garden.  Our first ones!  So exciting.  It's yellow squash.
I know not to get too excited, until we actually have veggies ready to harvest.  There's still a lot to get through - bunnies (we still need to figure out some kind of fencing), dogs (again, the fencing), drought (hopefully not this summer, or the water bill will be GULP!), just plain failure by my brown thumb.
But, I am still cautiously VERY EXCITED!!  Wonder if there will be anything new tomorrow morning?

Busy couple of weeks

My parents have been and gone, and finally I have time to write a little.  Not a lot of time, as we're going to my brother's for dinner, tonight.  But, just sitting here with my princess while she watches "Team Umizoomi," I figured I could blog a bit.
While my parents were here, my dad put in a garden for us.  Very exciting!!  It's something Izzy wanted so much, so he was happy to oblige.
Here are the pics:

I did get a little crafting done, too.  I made a few hairclips for Izzy.

I had never done this, before, but it was fun!  Hadn't used my hot glue gun in years....decided that'll be changing.  What else can I hot glue??  :)

It was a fun time with my parents - lots of work, but a trip to the zoo and lots of yummy meals with them and my brother and his family.  Still, nice to get life back to normal.

'til next time!
